Hanging wallpaper needn't be hard when there are specific instructions to go on. Are you ready to remodel your space?

If wallpaper is a new venture for you, be certain to select your variety carefully by reading the different kinds at the store. The variety of wallpaper you choose will determine the installation requirements. Pre-pasted wallpaper has a dry paste that is already connected to the back of the paper. This sort of wallpaper utilizes water to activate the paste. The unpasted varieties have to have a wet paste that is put on when installing.. The technique for installing is generally the same; however, the guidelines can marginally vary so read diligently.

Most wallpaper applications follow these steps: measure, cut, stimulate with paste or water and place.

Wall Preparation

It is very important work with clean surfaces and a clear work area before you begin. Make certain all electrical outlets are turned off and take away any wall fixtures. Properly clean and prepare wall surfaces by eliminating paste residue and previous wallpaper. TSP and alternative wall cleaners will be helpful.

Ready your wall employing a premixed universal primer for wallpaper. Priming the wall is a vital step when you are installing unpasted wallpaper given it allows easier removal of the wallpaper later.

Measure & Activate the Paper

Start by measuring the length of the wall. Next, add four inches and next cut your wallpaper. You'll need the paper to overlap the ceiling and the baseboard by approximately 2 inches.

Generate pattern match via random, straight across, or drop match.

If hanging unpasted wallpaper…

With unpasted wallpaper, you can apply the paste to the wall or to the paper itself. If you apply the paste to the wall, cover the area for one strip only and make certain to apply the product evenly. When sticking the wallpaper, begin in the centre and work away towards the edges while you evenly cover the wallpaper. Next, loosely fold the moistened strip with the pasted segments together. Permit it to sit for three minutes in a procedure known as “booking.”

Note that if you happen to be pasting unpasted wallpaper, it is possible to paste the paper or the wall itself. Be sure to only paste one region of the wall at a time should you be pasting the wall. If you are applying paste to the wall, simply paste one portion at a time. Place an even layer of paste on the backside of the wallpaper if you are applying it right to the wallpaper. Begin sticking in the middle of the wallpaper and move toward the edges. Carefully and loosely fold the moistened wallpaper strip putting pasted sides together with each other in a method known as “booking.” Let this collapsed booking of wallpaper rest in this posture for three minutes.

When you use heavyweight wallpaper, as those unpasted variations with cork, flock, or embellishment, opt for a clear stain-free pre-mixed paste heavyweight adhesive rather than light to medium weight.

When hanging pre-pasted wallpaper…

Roll your cut strip loosely and have the patterned side facing inward and the pasted side to the outside. Next, immerse the rolled strip for thirty seconds into tepid water to activate the paste. Many like using a Wallpaper Hand Sprayer to employ a fine mist to trigger the paste.

We love this method and recommend spraying in long strokes the size of the paper to fully moisten the back of the strip. Take extra care around the edges to generate even watering. Next, fold each end section of the moistened strip toward the middle with pasted sides together. Ensure the edges don’t dehydrate by precisely aligning the edges. Last, roll your strip just like you would roll a newspaper and allow it to sit for three minutes so the paste can initialize while the paper becomes more flexible.

Hanging your first strip

Once the booking routine is complete after three minutes, bring your strip to the wall. Gently unfold it and hang it. Let the wallpaper overhang on the ceiling and the baseboard. Carefully press out any air bubbles employing a smoothing brush, a broad knife, or a plastic smoother. Make certain the piece has adequate contact with the wall by pressing on the wallpaper. Take care not to pull or distort the wallpaper. Evenly press on the seam to compress them with a seam roller.

Proceeding to the second strip

Whenever butting the 2nd piece up to the first strip, position the second wallpaper portion to the edge of the first. Easily press the wallpaper securely. Remove any residual paste by washing the ceiling and also the baseboard after. The goal is for your seams to enjoy a tight, vertical fit. You want everything devoid of paste and air bubbles.

After installing 3 wallpaper pieces and getting rid of any excess paste, take a step back and check your work. Monitor how uniform the pattern and coloration looks from a distance. Carry on installing three panels this way at a time. Matching patterns or geometric designs may require extra selvage trimming to create colour matching across seams. Listen to your body and take breaks when you notice your arms and eyes are getting tired. Don’t hasten your wallpaper venture. Adhere to the above steps to hang the rest of your pieces. Lastly, cautiously cut the surplus trim along the ceiling and baseboards. It is recommended that you depend on a guide and a razor knife to assist in trimming without tearing.
